Air Chase Competition

Staples was announced the winner of the Air Chase Competition by the Belgium Association for Purchasing and Logistics. The Air Chase competition invites businesses to present what they have done in the past three years to reduce the transportation of air (in the delivery of products and goods), thereby minimizing their ecological footprint.

 

Corporate Responsibility Officer (CRO) Top 100 Companies

The CRO list ranks the corporate responsibility efforts of large-cap companies from the Russell 1000 index. We have been ranked in the top 100 for two years in a row.

 

Covalence Ethical Ranking

We were ranked 4th among 35 retail sector companies and 40th among 541 global companies evaluated in the 2008 Covalence Ethical Ranking.

 

Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI)

In September 2008, for the fifth consecutive year, we were selected as a component of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI) for 2008 – 2009.

 

Global Reporting Initiative

We have been a registered Organizational Stakeholder of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) since 2007 and support the mission of the GRI to develop globally accepted sustainability reporting guidelines through a global, multi-stakeholder process.

 

International Organization for Standardization (ISO)

Across many of our European operations, we have obtained ISO14001 certification for our environmental management systems and ISO9001 certification for our quality management systems.

 

Newsweek Green Rankings

We were ranked 20th on Newsweek’s exclusive environmental ranking of large corporations. Cited in the article about this designation was our increased use of recycled content in the paper we sell and our focus on purchasing paper products from well-managed forests, among other activities.
